02. Intelligent Instrumentation
Smart Field Device Supply
//
For remote facilities where technical support is limited, we prioritize predictive maintenance capabilities. Drakken specifies and supplies HART and Foundation Fieldbus smart transmitters from the vendor that makes most sense for the project. These devices provide advanced diagnostics that allow your team to identify potential failures before they trigger a production event.
03. Higher Risk Instruments
Hazardous Areas Instrumentation
Drakken manages the full lifecycle of instrumentation in explosive atmospheres. We certify, procure, and install hardware specifically rated for the hazardous zones where they operate.
Classification & Selection
Our engineers classify sites to IEC 60079-10-1 (gas) and 60079-10-2 (dust) standards. We select protection concepts—including Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, and Ex n—based on specific instrument functions and site conditions.
Certification Integrity
We oversee the entire compliance chain to ensure systems remain rated through commissioning:
Verification: Matching ATEX/IECEx markings to area classification drawings.
Environmental Ratings: Confirming IP ratings for all installation sites.
Hardware Integrity: Validating that cable glands, junction boxes, and terminations maintain the required Ex protection.
04. Verification
Calibration & Loop Verification
Drakken manages the complete calibration lifecycle, ensuring precision from initial bench testing through to final loop verification in the field. Our engineers validate pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters using NIST-traceable standards to guarantee absolute measurement accuracy. Every result is meticulously recorded in Inspection and Test Records (ITR-B) to maintain a transparent audit trail. We further verify signal path integrity across 4–20 mA and HART protocols, tracing the data from the field device directly to the DCS or SCADA input card. By identifying and resolving loop errors or signal attenuation before first energization, we ensure the control system receives reliable, high-fidelity data the moment the plant goes live.

05. Commissioning & Handover
End-to-end delivery for total assurance
Our field engineers install, terminate, loop-check and commission every instrument through to stable operation, with the same senior engineer who led the design on-site for first energization.
Our commissioning methodology includes: point-to-point loop verification from field device to DCS/SCADA I/O, functional testing of control valves and shutdown valves with stroke-time recording, cause-and-effect matrix validation for safety instrumented functions, and generation of ITR-A/ITR-B completion packs for client handover.
This single-party accountability, one team from FEED through commissioning, eliminates the interface risk that arises when design, procurement and commissioning are split across contractors.

06. Mobilization Ready
Getting on site
Whether your project requires a greenfield deployment or a complex brownfield tie-in, Drakken guarantees senior-led mobilization within a defined window of Notice to Proceed (NTP). We manage the full logistics lifecycle – including visas, work permits and armed escorts in restricted jurisdictions – to ensure your instrumentation arrives on-site, calibrated and ready for first energization.

07. Retrofitting
Brownfield & Retrofit Instrumentation
Drakken has specific experience in brownfield instrumentation scopes on operating facilities – live plant tie-ins, instrument replacement under operating conditions, and turnaround/shutdown instrumentation packages. Our engineers plan and execute hot instrument swaps, integrate new transmitters into existing DCS/SCADA architectures, and manage the interface between legacy 4–20 mA loops and modern HART/Fieldbus devices.
Whether the scope is a single-instrument replacement during a turnaround window or a full field instrumentation upgrade on an aging facility, Drakken’s approach is the same: senior-led planning, pre-commissioning off-site where possible, and execution within the shutdown window.
Drakken specializes in instrument swaps and live plant tie-ins. We bridge the gap between legacy systems and modern digital architectures with senior-led precision.
Capabilities: 4–20 mA to HART/Fieldbus integration, DCS/SCADA updates, and full field upgrades.
The Drakken Edge: Off-site pre-commissioning and senior-led planning.
The Result: Flawless execution within your shutdown window.
03. Commercial Viability
Drakken views instrumentation through a commercial lens. We actively pursue spare parts rationalization to lower your long-term maintenance expenditure by standardizing device models across a facility:
Reducing warehouse inventory requirements
Simplifying technician training & maintenance
Eliminating risks associated with sourcing specialized components.
i. Case Study – Operating crude oil facility, Iraq
Flare gas flow measurement verification
Drakken resolved a 10.5 MMSCFD reporting gap by auditing a three-stage Yokogawa DCS. We corrected isolated transmitters and faulty compensation logic online, verifying actual flows at 18.99 MMSCFD. This audit replaced unreliable data that had understated flare gas volumes by a factor of three.

08. HSSE
Safety track record
Drakken maintains a zero-LTI safety record across all field instrumentation operations. Every site team operates under Stop Work Authority — any team member can halt work if conditions change. Our HSSE management system is embedded in every scope from mobilization through demobilization.
