02. Power Management Systems (PMS)

Intelligent power management

//

Drakken’s Power Management System ensures production doesn’t stop, even during supply shortfalls or equipment faults. We provide a centralized view of grid health in real time.

Ultra-Fast Load Shedding: Response rates of <70ms. In the event of a generator trip, non-critical loads shed fast enough to prevent a total blackout.

Generation Control: Automated to keep system frequency and voltage within specified ranges, managing load sharing between multiple generators.

Centralized Automation: Integration of protection devices, PQ recorders and sensors across multiple protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus) into a single execution layer.

Microgrid & Renewable Integration: Management of hybrid power sources, ensuring stable integration of renewables with a traditional power supply.

03. Protection, Automation & Power Quality

Data-driven from concept to commissioning

Drakken delivers power quality solutions that monitor, analyze and balance power quality in real-time.

Comprehensive
Monitoring

Centralized vendor-neutral fault records and power quality data.

Grid Code
Evaluation

Continuous testing against international PQ standards & facility limits.

Predictive
Analysis

Using PQ faults to mitigate trends before it leads to hardware failure.

04. Modular Buildings

E-Houses & Power Buildings

Drakken engineers, fabricates and deploys fully integrated electrical houses for upstream oil and gas facilities. Each E-house is designed as a self-contained power distribution center – housing LV/MV switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, UPS systems, and distribution boards in a single transportable, climate-controlled enclosure.

Our E-houses are built to the specific hazardous area classification of the installation site and can be specified as fire-rated, blast-proof, or pressurized depending on the facility risk profile. We manage the full delivery chain: electrical design, structural design coordination, vendor-managed fabrication, factory acceptance testing (FAT), transportation, and on-site installation and commissioning.

Whether the scope is a single E-house for a remote wellpad or a multi-building power complex for a central processing facility, Drakken provides single-party accountability from single-line diagram through energized, load-tested switchgear.

i. Case Study

Consolidating Scope to Eliminate Secondary Modules

Drakken executed the complete EPCM scope for a 400-tonne E-house on an offshore FPSO – 6.6 kV MV and 400 V LV switchgear, MV/LV transformers, Emerson DeltaV ICSS, PMS with load shedding, UPS, HVAC, and fire detection – integrated with topsides production, utility and marine electrical systems.

By iteratively redesigning the internal layout to absorb continuous scope growth from adjacent contractors, Drakken eliminated the need for a second E-house. Delivered ahead of vessel readiness over 22 months with zero lost-time incidents.

Drakken delivered the full EPCM scope for a 400-tonne offshore FPSO E-house, integrating MV/LV switchgear, transformers, Emerson DeltaV ICSS, PMS, UPS, HVAC, and fire detection into marine and production networks.

Iterative layout redesigns absorbed ongoing contractor scope growth, eliminating a second E-house. Delivered ahead of vessel readiness in 22 months with zero lost-time incidents.

05. Electrical Safety

Earthing & Lightning Protection

Drakken designs, procures and installs earthing and lightning protection systems for upstream facilities. Our scope includes earthing studies, soil resistivity testing, earthing grid design, lightning risk assessment to IEC 62305, and specification of air terminals, down conductors, arrestors and surge protection devices.

We supply complete earthing material packages – earth rods, cables, crimps, lugs, and C-taps – and manage installation through to measured earth resistance verification.

Drakken maintains a zero-LTI safety record across all electrical commissioning and energization activities. Every team member holds valid LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) certification, and all energization procedures require an approved Permit to Work. Stop Work Authority applies to every member of every site team

Drakken designs, procures, and installs earthing and lightning protection for upstream facilities.

Our scope includes:

  • Soil testing and grid design

  • IEC 62305 lightning risk assessments

  • Material supply and installation

  • Measured earth resistance verification

Site safety protocols:

  • Zero-LTI record across all commissioning

  • 100% LOTO-certified field teams

  • Mandatory approved Permit to Work for all operations

  • Stop Work Authority held by all personnel

06. Commissioning & Testing

Taking the project live

Drakken commissions every power system we deliver. Our commissioning methodology covers switchgear and MCC startup, primary and secondary injection testing of protection relays, cable insulation resistance and hi-pot testing, transformer commissioning (ratio, winding resistance, oil analysis), UPS load bank testing, and earthing continuity verification.

We produce full ITR-A/ITR-B completion packs, maintain a punch list through to close-out, and hand over a tested, energized system with verified protection coordination – not a set of drawings and a shipping manifest.

The same senior engineer who led the design is responsible for first energization. This single-party accountability from FEED through commissioning is how we eliminate the interface failures that occur when design, procurement, fabrication and commissioning are split across contractors.

Drakken commissions every power system delivered, including:
  • Switchgear and MCC startup

  • Primary/secondary relay testing

  • Cable insulation and hi-pot testing

  • Transformer ratio, resistance, and oil analysis

  • UPS load bank and earthing verification

We close out punch lists to deliver full ITR-A/ITR-B packs and energized systems with verified protection coordination.

The lead design engineer manages first energization. This single-party accountability from FEED to commissioning eliminates contractor interface failures.
